Bernhard Wunder

Hi, I’m Bernhard Wunder, a landscape and nature photographer with a passion for the night sky. I was born and raised in the Franconia region of Germany, an area with rolling hills, forests, and rivers that feel surprisingly similar to Vermont. Over time, education and work carried me farther from home, eventually leading me to Vermont nearly 30 years ago. I’ve been grateful—and proud—to call this beautiful state my home ever since.

My photography journey began when I was ten years old and received my first camera. As I started traveling on my own, landscape and travel photography quickly became my main focus. Over the years, my curiosity led me to explore macro and abstract photography as well. But my passion lies in night sky photography that I picked up after moving to rural Vermont. This includes “nightscapes” (= landscape photographs taken at night, featuring an interesting foreground like a river or lake, mountains, farms or covered bridges, combined with a starry sky) as well as deep-sky astrophotography of faint celestial objects (nebulae, galaxies), captured using telescopes.

Living at the northern edge of Chittenden County provides me with dark enough skies to follow my hobby. While I roam to find enticing foreground objects for my nightscapes, the deep sky telescope work mostly takes place in my own backyard.

My images displayed here are all metal-framed and printed on metallic paper with a lustre coating (glassless) to achieve the color brilliance they deserve. The image titles are: - Eagle Nebula - Flaming Star Nebula - Horsehead and Flame Nebulae.
